KEC International has announced ₹2,872 crore in turnkey transmission orders from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, adding high-voltage line construction associated with renewable-energy development in Gujarat.
The contractor’s October 24 announcement says the awards cover design, supply and installation of 765-kV transmission lines. KEC links the projects to evacuation of 8.5 GW of renewable energy and says the package includes its largest-ever single order in its Indian transmission and distribution business.
The 8.5-GW figure describes the associated renewable-energy evacuation programme. It should not be interpreted as the transfer rating of one line.
Transmission must develop alongside generation
Engineering analysis: large renewable-generation zones require network connections capable of carrying their output toward demand centres. Extra-high-voltage corridors require coordinated engineering of insulation, reactive-power management, protection and system stability. Actual secure transfer capability depends on the network configuration, line characteristics and operating conditions.
The announcement concerns contract awards. It does not establish completion, energization or commissioning of the lines.
The release does not identify route lengths, connected substations, compensation ratings or commissioning dates. Those details require project documentation from the responsible authorities before they can be reported.
