ABB reported record third-quarter orders of $12.055 billion in its October 20 results, up 40% from a year earlier on both reported and comparable measures. Revenue reached $9.701 billion, an increase of 14%.
The company identified data centers as a particularly strong customer segment, with triple-digit order growth. These are company-wide results: the total order figure is not a measure of utility-grid equipment orders or new electricity capacity.
ABB also announced plans to acquire a controlling 51% interest in a joint venture involving Mitsubishi Electric’s low-voltage power-distribution business. The results describe an announced transaction, rather than a completed integration.
The engineering significance is the growing equipment requirement around electricity delivery inside energy-intensive facilities. ABB highlighted its direct-current portfolio, including a solid-state transformer it expects to make commercially available in the second half of 2027. That product remains a future availability commitment.
Watch order conversion, manufacturing expansion and product delivery dates. Record bookings indicate customer commitments; installation and commissioning are separate milestones.
