ENTSO-E’s latest strategy identifies system security, infrastructure development, resource adequacy and future grid operations as major priorities.
The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity launched its new strategy on October 22, setting a common direction for cooperation across Europe’s power system.
The framework groups its work around security, competitiveness and affordability, and decarbonization. Its five priority work areas are system security; grid development and connections; adequacy and flexibility; future power-system operation; and market integration and transparency.
Security includes physical protection, cybersecurity and security of supply. ENTSO-E describes growing electricity demand, changing generation and extreme weather among the challenges requiring coordinated action.
Why it matters for the grid
The strategy places infrastructure delivery alongside operating capability. Transmission connections, resource adequacy and operational coordination are related requirements, rather than interchangeable measures of grid readiness.
These are strategic objectives. The announcement does not itself establish a new technical standard, equipment requirement or completed network investment.
What comes next
The engineering significance will depend on implementation through planning methods, operating coordination and subsequent technical work. Specific requirements should be assessed against the documents that adopt them, rather than inferred from the strategy alone.
