Wärtsilä said on October 19 that it expanded its role in seven Brazilian power-plant projects for Origem Energia, adding above-ground process engineering, procurement and construction to previously announced engine-supply contracts.

The projects total 371 MW and were awarded in Brazil’s 2026 Reserve Capacity Auction, according to the company. Equipment orders were booked in the first and second quarters; the additional process-EPC order was booked in the third quarter.

Pilar, Pilar Nova and Manguaba I–V are in northeastern Brazil. Together they are planned to use 36 Wärtsilä 34SG engines and Origem Energia’s onshore natural-gas resources.

Wärtsilä describes the capacity as balancing support for a grid with increasing renewable generation. The announcement expands contractual delivery responsibility; it does not add 371 MW to the operating system immediately.

Pilar and Pilar Nova are scheduled for commercial operation in October 2028, followed by Manguaba I–V in August 2029. Construction progress, fuel readiness and commissioning will be the practical milestones for assessing whether the planned capacity arrives on schedule.
